Our vibrant Visiting Artist program at the gallery brings in some outstanding local and regional artists for a 6-month tenure with us. Ann Arbor artist Judith Jacobs is currently one of our Visiting Artists. Here's what she has to say about her recent work:
Three examples from my current series of pigment ink (digital) prints called “Wall Portraits” are on exhibit at WSG.
From a website, I downloaded a number of special Photoshop brushes made from photos of actual worn city wall surfaces. I "paint" with these and layer them with other "grunge" brushes from the website and with my own aging techniques (scratches, etc.) to create new walls. Using more Photoshop layers I position papers and graffiti one might find on real walls. These are taken from scans and from my own photos, some shot from actual paper-and-paste collages (“Wall Portrait 1” in the show) I made previously.
